Case Study 7: Legal Advisory with Deutsche Bank
Legal Advisory · Regulatory Compliance · US Sanctions Law
Context
A global financial institution operating across US markets required rigorous legal oversight of its regulatory compliance obligations under US sanctions law. With rapidly evolving regulations from the US Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and a high volume of complex legal issues arising across the organization, the institution needed dedicated legal expertise to maintain compliance, prevent regulatory exposure, and build systems capable of keeping pace with a constantly shifting regulatory landscape.
What I Did
I authored 20 regulatory disclosures submitted directly to the US Department of Treasury's OFAC, a high-stakes responsibility requiring precision, legal fluency, and a deep understanding of US sanctions law. Each disclosure carried significant regulatory and reputational consequences for the institution.
I provided legal advice on over 90 complex sanctions-related issues across the organization interpreting evolving regulations and translating legal risk into actionable guidance for the front office.
Recognizing the inefficiency of fragmented compliance tracking, I co-introduced a centralized digital tracking system to improve response efficiency and create a scalable foundation for ongoing compliance operations.
Outcome
15% improvement in compliance accuracy through rigorous regulatory disclosure authorship and directly preventing regulatory fines. 30% increase in response efficiency through the introduction of centralized digital compliance tracking across 90+ complex legal issues.
This role demonstrates what it means to operate effectively at the intersection of law, regulation, and organizational systems inside one of the most heavily regulated financial environments in the world requiring legal precision, strategic judgment, and operational thinking.
